2019 #38: HULA HOOPS 🍹🍹🍹 (FOOD REVIEW)

It's been a while since I did a full-on in-depth food review on a new restaurant my hubby bear and I go to for the first time this year.

Location: 2278 Westborough Blvd Ste 203 South San Francisco, CA 94080

Ahi Poke Nacho

[Description: Wonton Chips, Ahi Tuna, Avocado, Cucumber Seaweed Salad, Sriracha Mayo Dressing, topped with pineapple bits ]

My hubby bear's thoughts: The Ahi tuna was really cold like it came out of the freezer. The dish was nothing too special about it. Also for the price point, it is not worth the price.

My thoughts: As I tasted the tuna, it was very cold. Personally, I like my poke to be on a warm side of the food and I have eaten a lot of poke bowl before, so I know when the food is freshly made and this Ahi Tuna was not it.

Loco Moco Mochiko Fried Chicken

[Description: Mochiko Fried Chicken, Fried Egg, House Made Brown Gravy, and a side of macaroni salad ]

My Hubby bear's thoughts: He said he loved the fried chicken and he was so surprised that it was actually so good.

My thoughts: The fried chicken was excellent. I love the taste and texture of the chicken. It looks dry but once you take a bite of the chicken, it is so moist and tender.

Island Style Spaghetti

[Description: Homemade meat sauce with mushrooms and cheese ]

My Hubby bear's thoughts: He loved the spaghetti. He cannot stop eating it. He said it reminds him of the Jollibee spaghetti.

My thoughts: It's an upgraded Filipino version of spaghetti. Not too sweet not to sour either. I really like this style of spaghetti. The pasta was chewy and the tomato sauce blends in together with the pasta.

The service is excellent. The waitress and the manager were really attentive to the customer's needs. They checked up on us a couple of times while we were eating and asking if we enjoyed our food that night. As for the price of the food on the menu, some of the items I do not agree with the price point. Some are just simple dishes that you can make at home (in my opinion), yet priced like a high-end restaurant.

The restaurant is decorated with Bamboo Ben and the tiki lounge, in particular, is a vibrant & contemporary space. It makes you feel like you are on a tropical island in the middle of a cold-weather Peninsula of South San Francisco.

As for the location, the restaurant is located in a small plaza with other popular restaurants nearby. They have a lot of available parking space but sometimes when it is a prime time for dinner time,  it can be difficult to find parking. So be patient when it comes to looking for a parking to dine in.

Hubbybear and I agreed that our favorite dish of them all :
👍Loco Moco Mochiko Fried Chicken👍

and our least favorite dish of them all :
👎Ahi Poke Nacho👎

Overall, our experience at Hula Hoops Restaurant was not bad at all. Two out of the Three dishes we ate were really delicious. We will definitely come back, but order something else in the menu but I will definitely come back for the Loco Moco Mochiko Fried Chicken

Well, that's all for now...

The next first-time review will be from our family mini trip in  LA. We ate at this popular Korean BBQ restaurant.

Until next time,
