It's been over a month since our mini road trip to Los Angeles with my hubby bear's family. And I am finally posting all the pictures on my social media.
Coming back to Los Angeles feels nostalgic to me at the same time mix emotions. The last time, my hubby bear and I went to Los Angeles were 3 years ago, celebrated our first anniversary as a couple in Disneyland and this time, we are coming back as a married couple with the whole family.
DAY 1: CHINATOWN | AIRBNB PLACE | DIN TAI FUNG
Our first day in Los Angeles was trying to get familiarize with the new surrounding and the hot weather. I was mentally preparing myself every time I go to places that are not my prefer weather choices. Our first stop was the Old town Chinatown of Los Angeles. We have never been there before, so we were all excited to see the differences between Chinatown SF and Chinatown LA.
My hubby bear described the Chinatown plaza to be a nice cute little plaza for sightseeing only. It does have that "Hollywood vibes" to it especially the decorations and the building surround the plaza. As for me, I felt like the place is somewhat outdated and I wish they have live music or something it. We did saw a lot of souvenir shops and the statue of Bruce Lee was there as well. The plaza was a little bit disappointing because we only walked around less than 15 minutes and we already finish touring the place.

Our first family dinner at Din Tai Fung...
After we settled in our Airbnb place and freshen-up, we all decided to go to Din Tai Fung Restaurant as our first family dinner in LA. The first time my hubby bear and I went to DTF was pleasant and the famous dumpling house was really actually delicious. We wanted the whole family to try their famous Pork Xiao Long Bao and the house-made noodles.
But this time we went to a different location and we thought since the restaurant will be inside of the Mall probably not a lot of people go there in the evening because they have a lot of restaurants and food court food surrounding that area.
Location: 400 S Baldwin Ave Unit M5 Westfield Santa Anita
Upon our arrival, the host told us that the wait time for us to be able to get a table was 45 minutes and some people are still waiting to be seated as well. The restaurant was packed. We did not have any problems waiting on our table to be ready since we were a large group of people that night, so we waited patiently for them to call us.
However, after almost an hour and all of us are in a "hungry mode" already and we were all anxious about when we will be able to get our table that night. We talked to the host and complained about when will be seated and he could not find a single answer to our question. Then my hubby bear stood in front of the line since they texted him that we were the next group and our table is ready. We all stood there for almost another 15 minutes. 1 hr + 15 mins = waiting game!
While we were on the line, a random tourist talked to the manager complaining and yelling about how he is a tourist and he has "limited English" (that's what he said) and he's been waiting for almost 45 minutes and pointing towards the host. And immediately the manager helped him and got him a seat before us. While hearing and seeing what had happened with that random tourist, Both of my hubby bear and I was furious about the "privilege" action that the manager did to the other guy.
After we saw that we talked to the manager and started complaining to him why he did that and we were there before that group of tourists came inside. Of course, my hubby bear will not stand down to that kind of customer service.
When we got to our table the manager apologies to us about the wait time and the situation happened earlier and he said two of the items on the menu is on the house that night. He was trying to make-up for the situation earlier and we did let it go because we were so hungry that we think it's a waste of time to think about that anymore. But boy! Did we forgive too soon!
Some of our orders are forgotten, and they were about to charge us extra.
We spoke to the manager again, who was certainly apologetic and kept saying he'd look into what happened and fix it. But it was too late already, we were all felt like this place was unorganized and just totally not worth the time and effort to dine out with the whole family.

After our epic fails first family dinner in LA, in my personal opinion I will never dine at this location again. Maybe the one in DTF Glendale location perhaps we will come back. But rest assured not this location!
Well, that's all for now...
Wait for LA TRIP DAY 2~!
Until next time,
