Last year, my family embarked on our first-ever cruise, an experience that was both thrilling and nerve-wracking for me. At first, I had mixed feelings about the trip—I was eager to explore new destinations but also anxious about the unknowns of cruising. This was especially true because it was our first time traveling outside the U.S. with a toddler, which added an extra layer of excitement and concern. We weren’t sure how our little one would handle the long journey, the new environment, and the change in routine, but we were determined to make the most of this adventure.
Traveling with a toddler reminded us to embrace the present and find joy in simple pleasures. Watching our little one’s face light up at the sight of crashing waves or their laughter echoing through the ship’s deck reinforced why we chose this adventure.
Cruising with a toddler isn’t about ticking off every attraction; it’s about creating moments of connection and wonder. Whether it was marveling at a sunset from the ship's balcony or dancing barefoot on an island shore, the memories we made are treasures we'll carry for a lifetime.
✨️Cruise line: Princess Cruiseπ³
I don’t know much about cruises since I’ve never been on one, but my husband and I have heard a lot about Princess Cruises being more popular among retirees and an older crowd. While we were excited about the idea of experiencing a cruise, we also had some concerns. One of our biggest worries was the possibility of encountering people who might be rude or even openly prejudiced.
Coming from the Bay Area in California—a place known for its diversity and inclusivity—we couldn’t help but think about those scenarios. We wondered if we would feel out of place or if we would have to deal with uncomfortable situations. While we tried to keep an open mind, these thoughts lingered in the back of our heads as we considered whether this particular cruise line would be the right fit for us.
✨️Dining Experiences π
One of the highlights of cruising is undoubtedly the food. From casual buffets to elegant dining rooms, the variety of dining options caters to every palate. As guests, we had the pleasure of savoring an array of culinary delights, ranging from gourmet multi-course dinners in the main dining room to casual bites at the poolside grill. Specialty restaurants, such as the Crown Grill steakhouse and Sabatini's Italian Trattoria, provided an elevated dining experience that rivaled some of the finest land-based establishments.
Our dining experiences on the ship were a mix of highs and lows. Some nights, the food was absolutely immaculate—expertly prepared and bursting with flavor, perfectly suited to our tastes. However, there were also evenings when the service was disappointing. On those nights, our meals arrived late, disrupting the dining experience and diminishing the otherwise luxurious ambiance.
Our daily routine typically consisted of enjoying a casual buffet breakfast in the morning, followed by a formal dinner in the elegant dining room with the entire family. This tradition allowed us to indulge in a diverse range of cuisines while creating cherished memories together throughout our cruise.

✨️TOURS AROUND THE ISLANDS π
Our docking days—when we were allowed to explore each destination—were among the most unforgettable experiences of our trip. Each stop offered something unique, and although our toddler’s needs shaped much of our itinerary, the adventures were no less awe-inspiring. Some islands welcomed us with intense heat, while others were overcast and bustling with shopping areas, lively crowds indulging in drinks at every stall, and, at times, a few suspicious individuals that made us more cautious.
I vividly remember one island that greeted us with powdery white sand and calm, toddler-friendly waters, making it the perfect spot for a relaxing beach day. Sunscreen was an absolute necessity throughout our docking days to protect us from the relentless sun. Armed with sand toys and floaties, we spent hours splashing in the shallows and soaking up the sun together as a family. Finding a shaded spot was essential to keeping everyone comfortable, but we quickly learned that shade came at a price.
It’s important to note that beach chairs and umbrellas aren’t free—you’ll need to pay for them if you want a comfortable, shaded area to rest. Carrying cash at all times is highly recommended to cover small expenses like these and ensure a hassle-free experience.
✨️FINAL THOUGHTS✨️
For families considering a cruise, my advice is to embrace the unpredictability of traveling with a toddler. With a little planning, patience, and flexibility, you’ll find the journey is as magical as the destinations themselves. After all, seeing the world through the eyes of a child is an adventure in its own right.
STAY TUNED FOR PART 2 OF FORMAL NIGHTS, MORE FOOD PICS, AND ACTIVITIES WE DID INSIDE THE SHIP.
